HOW WE WORK
SHOULDER RECONDITIONING
We talk about shoulder reconditioning which is a relatively new term. You might be wondering what it is and how it is different to standard shoulder rehabilitation with a physiotherapist?
Essentially, shoulder reconditioning is about bridging the gap between rehabilitation and getting back to performing in your sport or fitness training at full capacity by working as an integrated team.
The reason a lot of people fail with physiotherapy is that they often only move from the bottom of the cliff to the edge at the top. They haven’t built enough depth to move far enough away from the edge that they don’t fall back into the water.
We have worked with so many people who have had limited success with standard rehabilitation practitioners before. They get better for a short period of time but are unable to move to a place where the issue is entirely resolved.
When our personal coaching clients finish their programme with us, they leave with the outcome they wanted and the knowledge of how to look after their shoulders in the future.
The frustration of the repeating cycle from injury to rehab to training only to get injured again and be back at rehab can be broken and we’ll do that with you.
We consistently get good results using our three-step system where we determine your individual needs, design you a training programme to meet your objectives and help you drive performance to reach your goals.
OUR THREE-STEP SYSTEM
ONE: DETERMINE YOUR NEEDS
We’ll get started with an information gathering phase which consists of:
-
Completing a couple of questionnaires
-
Sharing all relevant information such as MRI scan reports
-
An online movement screening, assessment and analysis
-
Integrated physiotherapist and strength and conditioning consultation
-
A face-to-face coaching session in Nottingham or London
-
Cutting-edge shoulder testing protocols and using VALD equipment.
All of this will help us to identifying the key mobility, stability and strength components that you need to achieve the outcome you’re looking for.
We are firm believers in the power of knowing why as well as what, so we’ll give you feedback at this stage to help you understand how you’re moving and the rationale for the exercises that will feature in your individualised training programme.
TWO: DESIGN AN INDIVIDUALISED TRAINING PROGRAMME
Now we have all the information we need to get started; we get to work and design your individualised shoulder reconditioning training programme which you’ll be able to access via the Fitr app. This includes:
-
Exercise video tutorials with coaching cues to make sure you do them correctly
-
How many repetitions you need to do of each exercise and the tempo
-
How many sets you need to complete
Rarely do we ask people to stop their wider training, instead we look to compliment what you’re already doing and fit the shoulder reconditioning or performance work into your weekly plan.
STEP THREE: DRIVE PERFORMANCE
Once your programme is in place, it’s a collaborative approach.
Research has shown that up to 70% of people do not do the rehabilitation programme they’re given. Adherence is the number one reason why standard rehabilitation doesn’t work. We work differently. Rather than prescription, we provide coaching.
With coaching comes buy-in, relationship and accountability. This helps you to do what you say you’re going to do and helps to keep you on track to reaching your goals.
Within the Fitr app, you can give us feedback each week on how you’re finding the exercises. You can send us videos of you doing the exercises so we can give you feedback. If you’re experiencing any discomfort, we can adjust exercises for the following week.
If you’re in pain, resolving your pain is part one. Once we’ve cleared you from any pain, we can move on to more exciting work of moving you further away from the cliff edge and improve your shoulder performance.
12 WEEKS LATER AND I JUST EQUALLED MY LIFETIME SNATCH PR AND IT'S NEVER LOOKED PRETTIER!
"Before seeing Tim, I'd suffered with a shoulder issue for over 2 years that was preventing me from fulfilling my potential, but also impacted my life outside the gym including sleep.
I'd consulted multiple different physios and movement therapists to fix the issue, but it was always a temporary fix and lacked the answers I needed to get back close to 100%.
I'd followed Tim for a short while and liked what I saw. The thoughtful, creative movement selection and programme design were standout features.
Time and money well spent and he'll always be my go-to guy going forward."
